I removed

[Sessions\Default%20Settings]
....

from winscp.ini and error code 2 can't change directory is gone. hope that help you.

Strange, I had that set in the saved profile/session, I guess I had to generally set it first. Anyway, that did solve the problem. Thank you for your quick response!

I would suggest the same. Make sure you select "FTP" protocol, before going to Connection tab.

Just tried the latest beta (4.2.1) - that didn't work, either.

Wanted to add that I tried unchecking "Show hidden files" (suggestion from a similar problem) but that didn't fix it. Another suggestion said to try "Passive mode", but that option is grayed out for me.

Can't change directory

I can login to my server successfully and get a full directory listing. However, when I try to change directories, it gives me this error:
