filezilla sftp xfer is more than TWICE as fast as WinSCP !

I would love to use winSCP but the transfer times are more than double filezilla for a 1.2GB file on a VM. I have tested several times and against the same server for the same file (not at the same time) it took filezilla just over an hour (1:17) to xfer the file..
The SAME file with WINSCP also using SFTP was well over three hours (3:21). Everything is equal, I have tried different times of the day to be fair etc.. multiple test.. Speed is set to unlimited in WinSCP.
What else can I do to improve the xfer time. I need it to be in the ballpark at least?
