All I want is to use WinSCP like a Norton commander to compare and sync files between my PC and my notebook. when I call up the program it is asking for
Host Name, User Name and Passwork...
What does all that mean..

WinSCP is intended to connect to SSH server. It is generally not suitable for transfering file between two PCs.

But you can of course install SSH server to one of the PCs.

You could make a large increase in the user base if the program was also suited for normal file management (e.g. transfering files between two PCs). What is the difficulty in making the SCP connection optional, in the sense that establishing a SCP connection is not a requirement for running the program?

If you do not require secure transfers and you have two PCs connected over LAN, wou may use standard Windows file sharing. Am I right?

Partially right. But you may want to have the flexibility to use the program both for "local" file management, over a secure network, as well as for managing files over an insecure network, which in essense SCP is made for.

I guess that is why you have the plugins for the "normal" file managers? So now my question is, why should the normal file managers get all the users, because of some the great plugin, when your file manager is soo much cooler?

OK. Unfortunatelly WinSCP was not designed to work with two local folders. It would require hude changes, which would take long time. There are many features in the wishlist still. And as others programs do not have them, they have higher priority.

So maybe, but not soon.
