WinSCP hangs

I experience repeatedly a hanging WinSCP :
I have several tabs (aka connections, most of them to the same machine with different folders) open, some of them with 'Duplicate Tab' generated. Some of them eventually not active due to time out. I have several files open in the internal editor. I cannot explain when but sometimes I cannot change between editor windows with Alt+Tab. Either the same windows remains on top or even worse if I come from another windows application the window does not appear in foreground but remains somewhere in the background. All WinSCP windows (editors and browser) are affected.
Windows task manager tells me that WinSCP uses 5–12% of CPU – which is the highest load of all active software. Currently it reports for one of the WinSCP editor processes a status 'stopped'.
