Could not retrieve directory listing

Hi,
  • WinSCP version: 6.3.6 (Build 15073 2024-11-25)
  • First time use (no upgrade)
  • Windows: Windows 10 Pro (10.0.19045 Build 19045_
  • Transfer protocol: FTP(S)
  • Using: GUI (Commander)
  • Remote: Apache FTP
I have a working FileZilla configuration which connects fine to an Apache FTP server. The same configuration (imported from FileZilla to WinSCP and only switched off 'remember last used directory') does not seem to want to play nice via WinSCP.

Attached the logs of FileZilla and WinSCP and the relevant parts of the WinSCP.ini file. I've made the attachment private in case I missed anonymizing some data. I sadly cannot provide logging from the server side at this point, also trying to find out the version of Apache FTP Server.

I've tried a lot of different tweaks to the configuration, but nothing seemed to work. Hopefully it's something very simple that I'm overlooking. In the mean time I'm trying to get more info on the Apache FTP version, but maybe this rings some bells.
  • WinSCP.ini (14.04 KB, Private file)
Description: WinSCP.ini (removed some personal details only)
  • filezilla.log (2.83 KB, Private file)
Description: filezilla.log (removed some personal details only)
  • winscp.log (5.83 KB, Private file)
Description: winscp.log (removed some personal details only)

Folders are forcibly hidden when connecting via FTP

  • WinSCP version: 6.3.6 (Build 15073 2024-11-25)

  • Windows: Windows 11 Pro

I'm in almost the same situation.
The folders that say "23 Hidden" at the bottom of the remote window are probably folders that are not displayed.
Clicking here only toggles the display of local hidden files and does not display remote folders.
If I could show this, the problem would be solved.

Re: Folders are forcibly hidden when connecting via FTP

@azfk: Please attach a full session log file showing the problem (using the latest version of WinSCP). Also give us a name of a specific folder that is hidden.

To generate the session log file, enable logging, log in to your server and do the operation and only the operation that causes the error. Submit the log with your post as an attachment. Note that passwords and passphrases not stored in the log. You may want to remove other data you consider sensitive though, such as host names, IP addresses, account names or file names (unless they are relevant to the problem). If you do not want to post the log publicly, you can mark the attachment as private.

Hi Martin,

Apologies for the late response.

Just to update you, I have yet to receive information about additional logs from the Apache FTP side. If they eventually come back to me with more information I will be sharing it here.

Best wishes for 2025. :)
