Can't access etc folder

Hi guys :)

Newbie here. I connected to my server, but I only see the home folder in root. I can't access etc folder. What's the problem?
I tried SFTP and SCP file protocol, same thing. What is the problem?

It looks like your account is chrooted. If you need access to folders outside your home, please talk to your server administrator.

thank you! That was the problem! My user was chrooted... Afterward, I had a problem with error 3 but worked around it by changing the user's privileges.
